"Circle of Friends" 2026

Advisory Board Campaign Overview

Sharing the Story. Inviting Friends. Strengthening Mission.

Thank you for serving on the Encounter with Christ Advisory Board. Your leadership helps strengthen ministries across Latin America and the Caribbean by increasing awareness of Encounter with Christ and inviting others to participate in this shared mission.

The Circle of Friends campaign is a simple, personal way for each Advisory Board member to help expand our circle of supporters.

Our Goal

During November 2026, each Advisory Board member is invited to personally contact ten friends, family members, or colleagues who may have an interest in global mission and the work of the church.

Rather than sending a mass email, we encourage you to send a personalized message sharing:

  • Why you serve on the Encounter with Christ Advisory Board.
  • Why this ministry matters to you personally.
  • A story that demonstrates the impact of Encounter with Christ.
  • An invitation to prayerfully consider making a financial gift.

A personal invitation from someone who cares about this ministry is one of the most meaningful ways others learn about Encounter with Christ.

Your Toolkit

To make participating easy, we have prepared a toolkit that includes:

  • A featured ministry story
  • A shorter version of the story
  • Photos and graphics
  • A short video and audio reflection
  • Sample email language
  • Social media posts
  • Frequently Asked Questions
  • A thank-you template for donors

Please personalize these resources in your own voice. Your authentic experience and enthusiasm are the most important part of your invitation.

Campaign Timeline

October

  • Review the toolkit.
  • Make a list of ten people you would like to invite.
  • Personalize your email and social media posts.

November

  • Send your personalized emails.
  • Share the campaign on your social media platforms.
  • Follow up personally with anyone who has questions or expresses interest.

December

  • Thank those who made a gift.
  • Share your experience with the Advisory Board as we celebrate what God has accomplished together.

Who Should I Invite?

Consider people who:

  • Care about global mission.
  • Have supported mission projects in the past.
  • Value leadership development and evangelization.
  • Want to make a lasting impact through sustainable giving.
  • May not yet know about Encounter with Christ.

The goal is not simply to ask for a donation—it is to invite people into a meaningful partnership in God’s mission across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Your Invitation Matters

Encounter with Christ was established to strengthen the ministries of Methodist churches and partner organizations throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Through grants supporting evangelization, leadership development, ministries of justice, and work with children and youth, lives are being transformed in communities across the region. Your invitation helps make these ministries possible and introduces others to this ongoing story of hope.

Thank you for sharing your story, extending your circle of friends, and helping grow this ministry for generations to come.

Give Ye Them to Eat

One Woman. One Village. Countless Lives.

By Patrick Lewis, GBGM Missionary

When people ask me what a grant from GBGM, funded by Encounter with Christ accomplishes for the mission of Give Ye Them To Eat, I don’t begin with numbers. I begin with a woman.

Several months ago, I watched three graduates of our More Than A Bandage Community Health Promoters Program stand in front of nearly eighty children in a small frontier village.

They confidently taught the importance of brushing teeth, demonstrated proper dental care, and applied fluoride treatments to every child.

As I watched them lead, I realized something remarkable. Just eighteen months earlier, these same women had been students sitting quietly in the back of our classroom, unsure if they had anything worth offering. Today they were the teachers. They were the leaders. Their neighbors trusted them because they were not outsiders—they were mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends from communities just like this one.

Then something unexpected happened.

One of our American volunteers visiting for another program, removed his dentures and flashed the biggest toothless smile imaginable. The children burst into laughter. Even the adults couldn’t contain themselves. In the middle of all the excitement, one little boy proudly announced, “I’m going to brush my teeth four times a day!”

Everyone laughed. But I found myself thinking beyond that moment.

How many conversations would happen around dinner tables that evening? How many brothers and sisters would hear that story? How many parents would remind their children to brush before bed because of what happened that afternoon?

That’s how transformation begins. Not through grand gestures. Not through expensive buildings. But through trusted local leaders who share knowledge, compassion, and hope with the people they love.

This is why Encounter with Christ’s partnership means so much. Your generosity didn’t simply pay for a training program. It equipped women with knowledge, confidence, and practical skills that they now carry back into villages where healthcare information is often scarce or unavailable. They teach young mothers about pregnancy. They help families understand diabetes and heart disease. They monitor blood pressure. They recognize emergencies. They provide health education in churches, schools, and community gatherings.

Most importantly, they remain there long after we leave. That is the beauty of the Give Ye Them To Eat ministry. We aren’t creating dependence; we’re cultivating local leaders who continue serving their communities year after year.

People often ask if a gift really makes a difference. I wish they could have stood beside me that afternoon.

They would have seen children laughing.

Women leading.

Families learning.

Communities growing healthier.

And they would understand that every gift becomes far more than a donation. It becomes hope. It becomes confidence. It becomes healthier families. It becomes the love of Christ made visible through people serving their own neighbors.

Thank you for making stories like this possible. Every life touched continues the ripple effect, and together we are witnessing communities transformed—one woman, one family, and one village at a time.

  • A project or story that inspired you.
  • Why you believe in supporting ministries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • What you’ve learned through your involvement with Encounter with Christ.

Then continue with the sample invitation below.

Template 1: Personal Letter or Email

Subject: I’d like to invite you to join me in supporting Encounter with Christ

Dear [Name],

I hope you’re doing well. I’m writing because I serve on the Advisory Board of Encounter with Christ in Latin America and the Caribbean, a ministry of The United Methodist Church that I care about deeply.

Encounter with Christ partners with Methodist churches and trusted ecumenical organizations throughout Latin America and the Caribbean to support ministries that share the Gospel, develop leaders, strengthen communities, and respond to the needs of children, youth, and families. What I especially appreciate is that these ministries are locally led—our role is to walk alongside our partners as they carry out God’s mission in their own communities.

As a member of the Advisory Board, I’ve seen how even modest gifts can help sustain meaningful, long-term ministry through the Encounter with Christ endowment and annual grants.

I’m attaching a PDF from one of the ministries that received a grant in 2025 from Global Ministries that was made possible by the income from the Encounter with Christ Permanent Fund..

I’m inviting a few friends and family members to join me by making a gift to Encounter with Christ. Whether your contribution is large or small, it becomes part of a shared effort to strengthen ministry throughout the region.

Thank you for considering this invitation and for all the ways you support God’s mission.

Template 3: Thank you note

Make your thanks personal.

A heartfelt thank-you is one of the most meaningful ways to nurture relationships. Before sending this message, consider adding a few sentences about what the person’s friendship means to you, why you thought of them when you extended your invitation, or why you’re grateful they chose to support Encounter with Christ. A sincere expression of gratitude often leaves a lasting impression and reminds donors that they are not only supporting a ministry—they are becoming partners in a shared mission. Please make sure to copy missioninterpreter@umc-encounter.org on your thank you note so we may also thank the donor.

A simple lesson. A lasting impact.

Sometimes transformation begins with something as simple as teaching a child how to care for their health.

Through Encounter with Christ, local Methodist partners create opportunities for children to learn, grow, and experience God’s love in practical ways. These ministries strengthen families, build healthier communities, and share Christ’s hope through everyday acts of care.

Every gift to Encounter with Christ helps make ministries like this possible across Latin America and the Caribbean.
