Nicaragua STORY
Bringing Health and Hope to Remote Families
In six remote communities of Matagalpa, Nicaragua, families face significant barriers to accessing health care. Through AMOS Health and Hope’s locally rooted ministry, support from Encounter with Christ helped strengthen maternal and child health—bringing care closer to mothers, children, and families.
In six remote communities of Matagalpa, Nicaragua, distance from health facilities created significant challenges for families seeking essential care. For mothers and children in particular, limited access to health services made maternal and child health an urgent concern.
AMOS Health and Hope was already working alongside these communities, responding to health needs in places where access to care was limited. Its Parenting with Love and Health project focused attention on mothers, children, and families living in these remote areas.
Encounter with Christ came alongside this locally rooted ministry with a $20,000 grant, helping AMOS address the critical issue of maternal and child health in the six communities. The partnership reflects an important dimension of Encounter with Christ: supporting organizations already present in their communities, listening to local needs, and carrying out ministries shaped by the realities of the people they serve.

AMOS Health and Hope responded through “Parenting with Love and Health,” part of its Maternal Child Health initiative in rural Nicaragua. The program approached the health of children within the larger context of family life—promoting healthy child development, strengthening parenting skills, and supporting family well-being.
At the heart of this approach is a recognition that parents themselves have an essential role in their children’s health. Strengthening families with knowledge and practical skills helps create healthier environments in which children can grow and thrive.
Encounter with Christ provided a grant to support this work in six remote communities of Matagalpa. Rather than determining from outside what these communities needed, Encounter placed resources behind a locally rooted ministry already responding to the realities of rural families.
In this way, the grant became more than financial assistance. It strengthened a ministry designed to help families become active participants in the health and well-being of their children.

Strengthening Families for Healthier Futures
For families in six remote communities of Matagalpa, Parenting with Love and Health offered a way to address maternal and child health within the everyday life of the family. Rather than viewing parents simply as recipients of health services, the program emphasized their role in nurturing the health, development, and well-being of their children.
Through this family-centered approach, AMOS Health and Hope sought to strengthen parenting skills, promote healthy child development, and equip families to take a more active role in their own well-being. For communities where access to health facilities was limited, strengthening knowledge and capacity within families was itself an important part of the response.
The $20,000 Encounter with Christ grant helped extend this work to six rural communities—placing resources behind a ministry rooted in the realities of families living there.
The surviving Encounter with Christ project record does not provide specific measures of outcomes, so we cannot yet tell the story through numbers or individual testimonies. What the record does show is a partnership designed to strengthen families from within: supporting parents, nurturing children, and building greater capacity for healthier family life.
