When Educators Grow, Children Thrive
Every child deserves a teacher who is equipped to inspire, encourage, and help them discover their God-given potential. In Methodist schools across the South Caribbean District, educators are doing far more than teaching lessons—they are shaping lives, supporting families, and strengthening their communities.
Methodist schools have long been places where education and Christian mission come together. Across the South Caribbean District, however, school leaders recognized that serving children well required continued investment in the people who teach and lead them.
Educators needed opportunities to strengthen their teaching practices, principals needed support as instructional leaders, and schools wanted to build stronger partnerships with parents and their surrounding communities. The vision was not simply to improve classroom instruction, but to strengthen Methodist schools as places where every learner could be valued and supported.
That vision led to a sustained effort to develop the capacity of educators and school leaders throughout the district.

The work began by investing in the people at the heart of the schools—the educators themselves.
School leaders gathered for intensive training, while professional development continued within the schools through classroom visits, practical training, and the modeling of effective teaching practices. Principals were also connected through a Professional Learning Community designed to support both their professional growth and spiritual nurture.
The effort reached beyond educators. Schools strengthened relationships with parents and school boards, while Methodist congregations became more intentionally connected with the schools in their communities. Encounter with Christ support helped carry this work forward through additional professional development focused on leadership capacity, teacher effectiveness, parent engagement, and greater equity for learners.

The result is a stronger network of educators who do not have to lead and teach in isolation.
Principals have opportunities to learn from one another, teachers receive practical support within their own school settings, and parents are invited into a more active relationship with their children’s education. The connection between Methodist congregations and their schools is strengthened as well, reinforcing the Church’s commitment to both general and Christian education.
This is how investment in educators reaches far beyond a training session. When teachers are better supported, school leaders are better connected, and families are welcomed as partners, the conditions are created for children to learn and flourish.

Partnership That Multiplies Impact
Encounter with Christ helps Methodist churches across Latin America and the Caribbean invest in ministries that respond to locally identified needs. In the South Caribbean District, EWC support provided $20,000 for professional development for school educators, helping continue the district’s work to strengthen leadership capacity, teacher effectiveness, parent engagement, and equity for learners.
It is a partnership built on a simple conviction: when local Methodist leaders have resources to pursue the ministries they know their communities need, those resources can touch lives far beyond the original grant.
